2nd Rector
E. H. B. Claydon 1903 - 1909

Mr Claydon remained for six years during which there was significant growth. The Sunday School went forward strongly reaching 542 pupils in 1909. The first Parish Paper was published, a strong interest in missionary work developed, a pipe organ was installed and Haberfield was added to the Parish of Leichhardt. During this period several small groups were formed one being the All Souls’ Sick Relief Fund.

    3rd Rector
H. S. Begbie 1909 - 1914

This was a period of revivalism among evangelical churches under the influence of visiting Irish clergyman G C Grubb. Herbert Begbie was converted in Victoria under Grubb and was one of those responsible for bringing this significant movement to Sydney. All Souls’ became a revivalist church and, not surprisingly, the congregation grew significantly.

Evangelistic services focussing on the revitalising power of the Holy Spirit were held and many professed to receive Christ as their personal Saviour. The Whitsuntide Season was also a time of special instruction regarding the blessing of infilling of the Holy Spirit. At one of these Sunday Services the church was crowded with 700 attending.

During Mr Begbie’s time, the Men’s Society was formed and Mrs Begbie began the Women’s Meeting in 1910.

4th Rector
Rev H. G. J. Howe 1914 - 1923

The revivalist influence continued under Harry Howe who was a leading exponent of the end-times theology of the movement. The Great War dominated this period with the Honour Board naming 202 parishioners who gave their lives in the 1st World War. Following the War there was an emphasis on mission service and on reaching young people.

The ‘separationist’ mentality of the revivalism was in evidence at All Souls’ with the formation of church groups and clubs. Three tennis courts were constructed in the Rectory grounds for the benefit of the young people. A young worshippers band was formed reaching up to 300 boys and girls. St Marks, Lilyfield was added to the Parish of All Souls’ in 1915, also the chaplaincy of Callan Park Mental hospital and Broughton Hall.
